But nobody bothered to inform the chief of International Airlines Group, BA’s parent company, that his office would fall to the wrecking ball.
“The first I saw of it was when the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and I saw a map and I thought, that looks very close to Waterside,” Walsh said. “Then I discovered it actually went right through Waterside.”
Waterside is the headquarters of both BA and IAG, a facility that cost £200m to build and opened in 1998. Through the British version of eminent domain, IAG will receive 25% over the market price for the property. However, rising fees to operate from an expanded Heathrow mean that the company will essentially end up paying to have their headquarters demolished.

Not as awkward as when they move the headquarters downtown and make everyone who bought a place by the airport commute.

Compulsory purchase as I would call it. Interestingly if you’re in Sweden the government or local authority have to pay fair value plus 25%.

given that BA operates like half of Heathrow flights, it’ll be like 40-50% of a swanky new HQ

I didn’t realize this was approved. When I was there earlier this year I saw a lot of ads on the underground against it. I think it was paid for by the London City Airport.
